Civil War quilt finished!

The Civil War squares table quilt is finished! I'm really happy with how it turned out. I like the modular strips, although they made for a lot of binding at the end. This way we can use it even if there are leaves out of the table. Someone floated the idea of not taking that table with when we move. I had to count to ten before I could explain why that was not an option at this juncture. :)

Modular mode engaged.

My next project is another tripoley board. This one is in pastels and dark monochromes. I've got all the pastel sub-units done. I had to buy some more black fabric the dark squares, now I'm ready to start on them.

Civil War quilt quilting

Progress continues on the Civil War table quilt... I've quilted the two "leaf" sections, acquired the velcro to connect the segments, and bought the binding material. Woot. It's a good thing it's almost done, I am running low on steam. It will be very nice to have it on the table though. And to start something new. :P To buck myself up I made a batch of caramel, which turned out delicious.

Civil war quilt sashed

Civil war quilt blocks

I've got the sashing on the civil war quilt blocks. I like how they're looking with the blue border. I'm not sure what to do with the kind of semicircular regions on the ends. Right now I'm leaning toward a double row of squares using the fabrics from the blocks. I want to ruminate on it a bit more.

I realized over the holidays that I have quite a few things on my quilting to-do list. The aunts reminded me that promises were made vis-a-vis Tripoley quilts, Carrie put in a request too. I found a super cute bean bag frog pattern at a shop in WI. I still need to make a foot coaster for the marble coffee table. Zooooom.

Civil war blocks done. :)

Image of 12 unconnected blocks on table.
This blog brought to you by the fact that I have a smortphone now so taking and uploading pictures as I craft no longer seems like the most aggravating thing in the world.

I finished all twelve blocks for my Civil War table quilt. I made three each of four different blocks from The Civil War Anniversary Quilts by Rosemary Youngs. It has a lot of cool blocks but doesn't give measurements for the patterns. It was a good exercise for me to figure out how to actually make the blocks I picked (#'s 23, 91, 101 and 125). I tried to pick the fabrics so that each block would look distinct from its sister blocks. I think I mostly succeeded.

Next: add the sashing for each table segment. I want the quilt to expand and contract with the table as we add and remove leaves. I'm not sure how I'm going to join the segments yet, I want to use buttons but velcro would be less bulky and noticeable. But, buttons! I love buttons soo much. Maybe I can put buttons on the pillow cover I want to make next.
